The challenge: put together a moving “arm” using only cardboard and syringes that can actually lift something.
The result: a first-place finish for the team from Georgia Tech’s chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers, thanks to their innovative design and a little bit of Tech tradition.

That competition, part of the ASCE Carolinas Regional Conference earlier this month, also included the popular and time-intensive concrete canoe competition. The Tech co-ed sprint team finished in third in that race. And the chapter’s team in the geotechnical competition finished in second place.
